The Roaming Traveler: Does NYC at Christmastime |Part Two|

Day Two:

No matter how old or young you are, everyone needs to go to the Toy Soldier Breakfast at FAO Schwarz at least once. I found out about on TripAdvisor and knew we had to do it. Everyone was pretty skeptical at first, but we all LOVED it. The breakfast begins an hour before the store actually opens, so you can view everything without any lines or crowds.

We got to 'raid' the schweetz area.

And we played on The Big Piano! Mom gave us a great Mary Had A Little Lamb performance that blew everyone away.

Toy Soldier Rich and Sir Jordan were fantastic! I highly recommend them.

Waiting for the bus at Central Park.

The buses either had a full cover, half cover, or no cover. We were lucky for the Downtown Loop, that we got a full cover only to find out that we would have to switch off of this bus halfway through the tour and get on another one.

When we got off of the bus, we decided to go on the Brooklyn Loop since we were already downtown. While walking to the next bus stop, we saw these cute tables with checker boards painted on them that were around City Hall.

Brooklyn Bridge!

Manhattan skyline from the Brooklyn side.

By the time we finished our Brooklyn Loop and the rest of the Downtown Loop, we arrived back in Times Square and noticed that the snow was heavy enough to stick!

This is the bottom of  the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. I look back at my pictures, and I am still amazed with this tree.. and New York City!

I love my family!:)

We then went to see the Radio City Rockettes in their Radio City Christmas Spectacular! I honestly could go see this performance once a week. It was so good!

The Roaming Traveler: Does NYC at Christmastime |Part One|

Day One:

I'm finally getting around to looking, organizing, and posting my pictures from New York City. I mentioned in this post that my amazing parents gave me a trip to NYC for Christmas! I had never been before but had always wanted to. Needless to say, it did not disappoint! I'm already looking to see when I can go back. Hhhmm.. Maybe in the fall!:) Here are just a few (I took over 1,100 pictures) pictures from our first day, along with some commentary. Enjoy!

My parents, boyfriend, and I headed out on our journey Tuesday, December 9th with a 6:00am plane ride.

We stayed at the New York Marriott Marquis, and it was fantastic! Momma upgraded our room, so we could have this AMAZING view of Times Square! Daddy and I were like little kids glued to the window. John and momma are afraid of heights, so they took in the view from afar:)

Getting ready to embrace the cold rain to get our Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tickets. We used Gray Line Tours and were not that impressed with them, but it beat walking everywhere.

These Mississippians dressed like eskimos the entire trip. On this day, it rained majority of the time but stopped at night, which was nice. This was John and I on top of the bus. You could not see ANYTHING sitting in the bottom, so John was sweet enough to bare the cold with me, while dad kept mom company at the bottom.

Our first bus loop we did was the Uptown Loop. This is Harlem.

The Apollo Theater in Harlem.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art looked beautiful. Prince William and Kate were having a charity dinner there this particular night. We thought about going, but $100,000 for a plate was a little steep (insert shocked emoji).

The next loop we went on was the Christmas Lights loop. It was so hard to take pictures on the bus at night. This loop mom, dad, John, and I sat on the top and braved the cold together!

This is the Tiffany's snowflake that hangs over 5th Avenue!

We ate at Carnegie Deli, definitely recommend, then dropped mom off back at the hotel, so John, dad, and I could go exploring.

Radio City Music Hall and the Rockefeller Christmas tree were just a few blocks away from the hotel, so we frequented this area almost every night.

So magical!

We had a very successful first night in town!

If you have any questions about our trip, please feel free to ask:)

My Favorite Sweatshirt

Such an intriguing title for this post, I know. But you know its got to be an awesome sweatshirt, if I have a whole blog post about it.

This is a Brian Lichtenberg sweatshirt. Yes, they are somewhat pricey, but I absolutely love it and get compliments on it constantly! I am a plus size girl (around a size 18), and I can comfortably wear an XL in this.

I've noticed the past few weeks, that it's getting harder and harder to find things that fit properly and then I have a 'poor pitiful me' moment. I know I can do something about it and I know I should do something about it, but my brain does not convey the motivation to my body. So during my 'poor pitiful me' moments, I put on my sweatshirt because skinny celebrities can wear it and so can I, therefore that makes me feel skinnier.

Day Date of Movies

John and I received movie gift cards for Christmas, so we thought yesterday would be the perfect day to use them. There are quite a bit of movies out that we want to go see, but we especially wanted to see American Sniper and The Wedding Ringer.

With American Sniper being so heavy-hearted, we thought we would follow it up with something more light-hearted like The Wedding Ringer.

American Sniper was great! You definitely need to be in the mood to watch something like this. There is blood, cursing and killing of children (I warned you..). It is extremely sad but a very good movie. I wouldn't buy this movie, simply because it's not something I would want to watch over and over again. I do recommend seeing it in the theater, so you can get the full effect.

The Wedding Ringer was funny! I wouldn't say 'laugh my ass off' funny, but it kept me entertained. I absolutely love Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting but not so much in this movie. Kevin Hart and Josh Gad are HILARIOUS together! This is definitely a Redbox movie for me.

YouTube Tags Turned Into Blog Posts

The other day I wrote, here, about not being able to think of anything to write about. After racking my brain for an idea, I started watching YouTube videos. CutiePieMarzie uploaded a tag video, and it got me thinking.. I could look up some YouTube tag videos and use the questions to write a blog post one day when I'm stuck. Genius, I know!

I googled (because who the heck actually Bings), and I found that someone had actually created a list of different YouTube tags and the questions that go along with each one! This was such a lifesaver. Thanks to Eye Girl :) for creating the list.

Momma's Birthday Night

This past weekend was my beautiful madre's birthday! We went out to celebrate at one of our favorite restaurants, Shapley's. The food, as always, was amaze-balls! Tamales, side salad, steak, scalloped potatoes, Amaretto freeze, and Amaretto cheesecake - yum! I also finally realized how bloggers/vloggers forget to take pictures of their food. The waiter starts bringing it all to you, and you don't realize until you get the check that "oh shit, I didn't take any pictures for my blog."

The blanket scarf.. Every blogger has one. But in all seriousness, I love mine!

My eyes are always so squinty in pictures (and I guess in real life too), so I wanted one where my eyes were open!

My sweet Bell! After almost 10 years, I finally get one of her sitting still.

And my sweet Sophie! It's a hard knock life.

The boyfriend and I:)

This is typical.. Me, primping and daddy, not paying attention!

Happy birthday momma! I love you more than you will ever know!

Blank Space

I'm obsessed with Taylor Swift's new song, Blank Space. I kind of feel like I might be turning into a baby Swifty. But seriously, my brain is a blank space right now. I've been reading other bloggers' January posts (new and old) trying to find a little inspiration, and apparently January is the hardest month to think of something to write about. I guess the holidays just sucked it out of us.

So I'll leave you today with a picture of my all time favorite blanket that John gave me at the beginning of December, which I refuse to pack up with the Christmas stuff, and my new favorite house shoes that John's parents gave me for Christmas.

I hope everyone has a safe and warm weekend!

Roaming Thoughts of the Week - Four

Roaming Thought #1:
I really like calendars. They are so pretty and make me feel so professional. But why can't I stick to using the damn things? And why do they all have to be cute? Do calendar makers (is that a thing) know that we cannot fit our work and life schedules into the little block of space they give us to write in?

Roaming Thought #2:
How can I not find a sleeve for my laptop? Have 15" Mac Book Pros become obsolete? WTH!

Roaming Thought #3:
Love Actually (the movie). I don't quite understand the greatness of it. John and I watched it with my parents last weekend, and I felt like I was watching a mild porno. Oh, don't act like you haven't seen one before. But seriously, everyone has seen one, right?

Roaming Thought #4:
Gel fingernail polish is so hard to remove! I don't want to spend my time and $7 to get it removed.

Roaming Thought #5:
I am so ready for Mardi Gras in February! How many days can I wear my striped Mardi Gras shirt before it gets stanky?

War of the Dry Shampoos

Let's get real, I do not wash my hair everyday. Honestly, I don't know of one girl that does. It's so time-consuming. I mean, I could watch a 30 minute TV show on my DVR in the time that it takes me just to wash it. And don't even get me started on blow drying and "fixing" it, which I rarely do nowadays.

I try to go about three days without washing my hair. During those in between days, I rely on good ole dry shampoo. I feel like I've had my fair share of trial and error with the cheaper dry shampoos, so here they are.. the ones I like and dislike.

NOTE: My hair is more oily than it is dry. It is naturally straight as a board and there is no color in my hair.

1. Batiste Dry Shampoo - A Hint of Color: Dark and Deep Brown (my favorite)
Pros: Having brown hair, sometimes using a white spray will not always work for me, so this great for brown hair. It sprays out almost a gray/black color. Don't freak out! It will massage in perfectly. This is also perfect for someone who would rather brush the dry shampoo through their hair instead of massaging it in. It takes care of (at least) three day old hair. I may or may not have used it for four day old hair, and it worked like a charm.
Cons: If you massage this into your hair, you will most likely get a brownish tint to your fingertips. It will wash off, but it gets worse the more days you use it. This one is also a little pricey compared to the other ones.

2. Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo
Pros: This is works great for two day old hair. I love the smell of it. Plus, I love that it comes in a travel-size. I find the spray to be more clear than white, which I love as well.
Cons: It didn't work quite as well on the third day as the Batiste Dry Shampoo. Also, you lose the last little bit in the can because it will not spray out the rest.

3. TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo (least favorite)
Pros: It smells really good. Comes in travel-sized bottles as well. It's also much cheaper than the Batiste Dry Shampoo.
Cons: The white will not massage into my hair no matter what I do. I will massage, brush, then massage again, and I will still see white streaks in my hair.

In addition to this list, I've heard great things about Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish, but I haven't talked myself into spending $29 on dry shampoo.

What are some of your favorite dry shampoos?

My Go To Makeup Products of 2014

I've always been very minimal with my makeup. My normal routine would consist of bronzer, eyeliner, mascara, and chapstick - all from the drugstore. This year, when I turned 25, my face decided to not like that routine anymore. The bags under my eyes were darker. My cheeks turn more red than normal (I've always had this problem, but now it is worse). Eyebrows are spotty yet still bushy. Lips constantly feel like a brillo pad. And my skin is extremely dry but still oily. Can't a girl catch a break? I watched and still watch YouTube videos to help me find what would be best for me. I am still in the experimenting process, but this is what I've come to love in 2014 and what has helped me!

My first love is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. I feel like I'm hopping on this bandwagon extremely late, but I'm so glad I found it. It's like the applicator is a magical wand that will make all of your problems go away. My favorite way to use it is on my cheeks. Like I said, my cheeks turn really red over the smallest things - walking in the cold, walking in the heat, taking on sip of alcohol, just sitting, touching my face. I was told that it was not rosacea, but no one can seem to tell me what it is. It also completely covers my dark circles! I guess you could say I use this concealer more like foundation.

My next found love is the Rimmel Volume Accelerator Mascara. I've always loved Rimmel mascaras, but they stopped making the one that I would normally get. It took several failed purchases trying to find the perfect one, but I did and that's all that matters. The brush looks daunting and big, but it's amazing. It gets every lash, top and bottom. I love the volume it gives and that it's very buildable. Plus, my eyelashes never look spidery.

Thirdly, I fell in love with the Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm. This lip balm is so creamy and lasts on your lips for a long time. I put it on before bed, and when I wake up, it's still on there. I wouldn't say I've noticed my lips getting plumper, but they definitely stay moisturized. WARNING: If you can't stand floral smells, do not buy this. It smells like you've rubbed a rose petal all over your lips. I'm not a fan of floral scents, but I got used to it.

I was in search of a new powder to go over my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Since I loved it so much, I decided to try the NARS All Day Luminous Powder Foundation, my fourthly found love. It makes your skin look flawless. The powder is very lightweight and hold your concealer in place. I've worn the concealer with the powder over the top for more than 8 hours, and my face still looked on point. It's also SPF 24.

Lastly and this one is all thanks to my momma, I fell for the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner. Hands down, this is the best eye liner I have ever used. I put eye liner on my waterline and at the end of the day, it is normally gone. This one, however, doesn't budge. It stays exactly where I put it. I've also worn this eye liner for more than 8 hours, and it stayed on like a dream!

I know most of the things I have mentioned are a bit on the pricey side, but I feel like they are all worth it! What are some of your must have beauty products?

All opinions shared are my own - straight out of my roaming brain.
