Superhero Kimono

kimono (similar) / jeans (similar) / shoes (similar)

Hey y'all! Let me first update you on this past weekend. The po' boy festival was a dud. We were thinking there was going to be vendors setup for you try different po' boys, but come to find out, it's just a specialized menu of po' boys at one restaurant. I would like to go back and try other stuff on their menu. I just won't go back for the festival.

On to this super cute kimono. I got this a couple of years ago from a Torrid outlet in Mississippi. I wear it every summer with shorts or jeans depending on the weather and occasion. Today I wore it with jeans and closed toed shoes since I had to work half a day. I wasn't sure how the Vans would be with the outfit, but I got so many compliments on the look I just had to post it! I love how it flows when I walk. It honestly feels like a cape. Sometimes I run (lightly jog) a small distance so that it will fly in the wind. Everything I'm wearing is old:( BUT I liked similar pieces under the picture. My Vans are in ice flow, and my kimono was from Torrid!

John and I are gearing up for his family to come in town next weekend so that means a weekend of cleaning for us. I am actually looking forward to getting our house back in order. It gets messy and dirty so quickly and there are only two of us. I can't imagine children on top of that. I hope y'all have a great weekend!

Ready For The Weekend & Feeling Homesick

This week has been one. Nothing major has happened. I'm just over it ya know. However, for someone to be so dramatically over it, I've actually been pretty productive this week. We've stayed on top of dishes, laundry is done, did some returns, bought an anemone for our fish tank, shaved my legs, put addresses into my address book and we are going to a financial meeting later today. The return was kind of sad. We decided to part ways with one of the two blankets we purchased during the Nordstrom sale. It just wasn't practical to keep both, and John found a blanket he really liked from SAMs for a tenth of the cost. The only thing left to do for the week is to cut the grass. Yikes. That shit looks like a jungle.

I feel like I've been really emotional but not showing any of my emotions this week, almost like a zombie. Hey.. maybe my body is prepping me for Halloween. Lol. Jokes. But really. I've been missing home A LOT lately. I miss my dogs, my family, my friends, and I just want to go back. I want to sit in the backyard with my parents, drinking a beer, grilling, and talking about everything thats been going on, all while gettin' eaten by mosquitos while my babies are laying on the outdoor couch next to me. I love where we live, but nothing compares to home and the normal you grew up with for 26 years.

I am looking forward to the weekend even though I've got to work for a few hours on Saturday. I really do believe everyone is working for the weekend. John and I are going to a po' boy festival in Grafton, and I'm so so excited about it. I found out Grafton Oyster Bar actually gets their french bread from Gambino's in New Orleans! Whaaaat. Bring on the food, drinks, and sunshine!

Thanks for listening (reading?) my woes.  Have a good weekend y'all!

Roaming Thoughts of the Week - Eight

 {more bloopers from last week's blog post}

Roaming Thought #1:
I've been thinking a lot about babies lately. Hell, I've even had a couple of dreams about those oozy little things, but so many questions come to mind.. Like, when do we want to start trying? When do you have to stop wiping them? Those are two very important questions for me. One of our biggest hang-ups right now is daycare. It's like $1,000/month from what we are finding. *Home Alone face* Our goal is to prove to ourselves that we can save that $1,000. Once we do that, I think we will be more comfortable to start trying.

SIDE NOTE: If you are traveling with a baby on a plane, I've heard to give them a bottle while taking off and landing. The sucking helps their ears with popping. The more you know people..

Roaming Thought #2:
I've been thinking about my birthday a lot lately. Next year I turn 30, and I want to do something big. As of right now, we are looking at a Mediterranean cruise or a trip to Italy. My goal is to go to Venice, Florence/Pisa, and Rome. I've only been able to find one cruise, and it kind of sounds perfect. I'm a tad skeptical though since I've never been on a cruise before, and I just want to make sure that we will enjoy it and see everything we want to see. If I had all of the money in the world, I would push harder for us to just fly to Italy, but I'm interested in seeing other places as well. This particular cruise goes to Croatia, France, and Spain as well as the three places in Italy. We invited my parents to go with us! They are currently mulling over whether they want to cruise or fly. So far, I've heard daddy is cruise and momma is fly. They have never been on a cruise either, so this word is just so foreign to us. I see benefits of both. I just can't decide.

Roaming Thought #3:
I went on a bachelorette trip this weekend to Lake of the Ozarks and had a great time! It was my first time there, and I'm wanting to go back and take John. On this trip, I had my first ever pickle shot. Now I like pickles, but I'm not a drink the pickle juice kind of girl. Let me just tell you, it was delicious and refreshing. I have no clue what pickle juice or vodka that was used, but I need to make more for every occasion. Have you had them before? How do you make yours?

Roaming Thought #4:
Recently, I did this blog post about a couple of new tops I picked up, and it seemed to go over really well with people reading the post. Is this something that y'all would like to see more of? John and I had fun taking the pictures and trying different poses. I mean, it felt weird when people would walk or drive by but that made it even more fun. People were actually turning their entire bodies around in their car to see what in the hell we were doing. Doing the post also showed me that John can take really good pictures. Hey boog, you're hired! I will pay you by doing the dishes once a week.:)

I hope y'all have a great week!

Plus Size Peplum-ish Tops

{cute blooper}
Recently, I took a stroll through Lane Bryant to see what they had in their sale section. This is normally the only area I shop in Lane Bryant because their stuff can tend to be a little pricey, but I was pleased to see they were having a sale on top of their sale items - buy one get one free clearance. I did some digging and emerged with two tops that were somewhat similar yet very different. The fit of both tops were very flattering. They hid my kangaroo pooch and made me feel #boss. I love that you can dress them up or down depending on your pants and shoes.

I love the color of the pink top (it also comes in a gorgeous blue color) but the flowy sleeves won me over. I feel like a confident butterfly. The material is very sophisticated and blousey. It would be great for work or going out. The denim top is light and airy and could easily transition into fall, which I love. The bottom half of this top and the back ties are my favorite. It's just so different from what I currently own. [I couldn't find the exact denim top on their website anymore, but I found one that was similar and still super cute.]

The sale is still currently going on, so I might just have to pop back in and see what else I find! I mean, I still have $50 of my birthday money to spend.

Nordstrom Sale Finds

Don't judge me, but I totally hopped on the Nordstrom sale bandwagon. There are two in the St. Louis area, and I may or may not have gotten John to go with me to both of them on the first Saturday the sale was open to the public. I had birthday money burning a hole in my pocket, so we had to go.

I did a little research ahead of time to know what I was looking for because I'm notorious for going to a sale and not actually picking up anything in the sale. It's like I don't pay attention or something (don't comment on that John or momma). I knew I wanted a blow dryer, makeup brushes, black booties and the blanket that looked like Khloe Kardashian's leopard print blanket. You know the one.
{reality of what my vanity and bathroom counter looks like}

I had shopped the sale one other time to get leggings that everyone raved about. That has been 4 years ago, and I, along with many others, still rave about them. They are the first pair of leggings I had ever bought, and I got spoiled. They are a thick material (in a good way) so no skin shows through, and they are high waisted. I think they are probably in the sale every year. I almost bought more this year because both of mine are starting to get little material beads where my thunder thighs rub together and try to create a storm. Not today thighs, not today.

So John and I walked into Nordstrom at West County Center and first stop was the beauty department. I debated on getting this blow dryer just because it's expensive, and I am used to blow dryers that cost, at the most, $50. Unfortunately, they did not have anymore in stock, but the sweet saleslady hooked me up with ordering it online. Little did I know the other store had a plethora in stock, and I could have gotten it that day instead of waiting a week. But it's okay!:) I have already tried the blow dryer, and I must say, I do love it. I feel like my hair has become so much softer and not as many flyaways. I use it on the medium heat setting, which takes a bit longer to dry, but I am trying to not put as much heat on my hair. The blow dryer is a little heavier than I anticipated, but just like everything else, you get used to it. What really caught my eye with this dryer was the grey and rose gold coloring! Ohemgee. It's beautiful! I feel so fancy using it.

Makeup brushes were the next thing on my list. I've been wanting the Sigma F80 brush for a while, but I never got around to buying it. I like makeup, but I go through phases with it. I don't wear face makeup most of the time, so I wasn't sure if it was something I would use. Honestly, I still haven't used it since I purchased it. I'm still glad that I got it, and I can't wait to finally use it when I'm going out because that's pretty much the only time I do wear face makeup. It was a good deal in my opinion plus it came with another brush to help me with my contouring game that is non-existent.

While in the beauty section, John found something he wanted because he knew I had been wanting it, and that was a stand alone mirror for my vanity. This mirror has a light that recognizes when you are sitting in front of it with a control on how bright the light shines. I can pluck every eyebrow hair that needs to be plucked and see just how clogged my pores are too. I'm really loving it. I've noticed John has even been using it.

After the beauty department, we perused the handbag section, sunglasses, scarves, and on to the shoes. I saw a pair of black booties that I fell in love with online. I have been searching for a pair for quite sometime but nothing seems to strike my fancy... until these. I just knew they would be perfect. We finally got a salesperson to wait on us. She found my size in the back, and I excitedly tried them on. They were *thumbs down emoji*. I didn't care for the material, and they sat too high up on my ankle. They have looked so cute on so many other people, ugh, just not me. The search still continues.

Off upstairs we went in search for Khloe's blanket. All I have to say about that is 'sold out'. Everywhere. These blankets were clearly a hot commodity this year. John knew I really wanted the blanket, so he was checking everyday for them to restock it. He hit the goldmine. They restocked, and we snagged two colors. I wanted the original black and tan version, but hey, I'll take what I can get and this girl ain't paying full price for it. So we will have two colors in this blanket and will have to  determine which one we are going to keep. We shall see. They are coming in the mail today (keep a look out on my instagram stories for the big blanket reveal)! I have a feeling we are just going to end up with both of them. *Thanks boog!:)*

While upstairs, I looked around the clothing section, and oh my stars, I found THE cardigan of my dreams. The color was Tan Heather (aka oatmeal), and it was so incredibly soft. I just wanted to roll around on it with my naked body. Too much? Anyway. I had encountered my first real 100% cashmere cardigan. It was everything I have ever read about them. The sleeves were funky bubble sleeves and looked so cute. I tried on the L/XL knowing it wouldn't fit. To my surprise, it looked perfect from the front but absolutely awful from the back. Wasn't meant to be.. this year. But next year when I find $200 to spend on a cardigan and lose about 50lbs, I'm treating myself. I would have definitely deserved it at that point.

I'm really happy and excited with everything we picked up at the sale! It ends August 5th so hurry! Did you purchase anything? If so, what did you get?!
